Karen Cowdrey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in psychotherapy and has been a psychotherapist for over 20 years. She received her M.S.W. degree from Yeshiva University in New York in 1984 and practiced in New York City prior to coming to California in 1992.
Karen has extensive training and expertise in many individual, family and group psychotherapeutic approaches, including Redecision Therapy, family systems based therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Assertiveness Training, and other cognitive and behavioral methods.
In addition to her many years of experience in providing service in the private clinic setting, she has extensive inpatient and partial hospitalization experience and has worked with clients whose problems have spanned the gamut from very seriously impaired individuals to very highly functioning persons.
She uses a psychodynamic framework as well as brief therapy methods drawn from cognitive-behavioral and expressive therapies. She has been a senior psychotherapist with SBBH since 2002 and presently conducts individual, couples and family therapy.
When not doing psychotherapy, Karen can often be found painting or singing in and conducting choral groups.
